Loving Lately March 2017

It's time for another round of Loving Lately!
I am going to do this once a month & they have a color theme.
January was gray, February was pink and March is going to be...yep...you guessed it....GREEN in honor of St. Patrick's Day!
Here is this month's Loving Lately....

// ONE //
Spring has sprung here in the Bay Area & I am loving all the green hills!

  Because of all the rain/snow we got this winter, the hills are just so green!

 I went running up in these hills the other week, I loved all the views.

// TWO //
Speaking of all the green hills, they make a great background for photos!
The girls school had a Kentucky Derby themed auction this past weekend....I loved the theme!
 We met at one of our friends before for photos...it felt like prom :)

Dress // Fascinator

 Now that the weather is nice, it is smoothie weather!
Here are some of our favorite green smoothies....

Smoothies are a great way to sneak in veggies without your kids knowing :)

// FOUR //
I am loving this jacket...perfect for when the weather is chilly in the morning, but nice during the day. It's all about layers! The color is mossy brown, but it is a khaki green.

 I like it because it comes in Tall...I have the Tall x-small and the arms are long enough!
You can get it HERE

This hummus!!!! So good!
I am loving it with carrots or pita chips.

// SIX //
I got this cute top in my Stitch Fix last week.
Isn't it so cute?i love it!
I am wearing it today for St. Patricks Day :)

// SEVEN//
Speaking of St. Patrick's Day, I love the St. Patty's Day traditions that we have.
I just do a couple things...set up a scavenger hunt with gold coins....

 Leprechaun going potty in our bathroom....

My kids asked if they could set up a video last night so they could see the leprechaun :)
We love St. Patrick's Day around here...I am Irish.
It was 5 years ago on St. Patty's Day that we told the girls I was pregnant.
You can read that post {HERE}

If you need meal ideas for St. Patty's Day tonight....

10 on 10 March 2016

10 pictures on the 10th day of the month!
{Document a snapshot of your life & find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}
ten on ten button

March 10th! Already! Time is flying!

Here is a snapshot of our day:
Starting my morning in my classroom....grading homework packets, drinking coffee & eating a bar.
Thursdays are my extra short teaching day, I am done at 11:15. I stayed & caught up on emails then headed home for lunch. One of my favorite lunches to make is 2 fried eggs topped with 1/2 an avacado & chalula. Today I added some fresh spinach to it. YUM!
 Then I headed to the post office to mail tanners & micro derm paste! If you ordered from my bulk order, they should be arriving in 2 days! I ordered a few extra of each, so if you missed the bulk order & want one of our sunless tanners ($21) or microderm pastes ($68) send me an email: melissa_larson17(at)yahoo.com

Going to pick up Luke...the hills are SO green this time of year!
Grabbed Claire from school & then headed home quickly for an afternoon snack. I made a green smoothie..I need to blog the recipe...it is delicious & healthy!
Then it was time to take Luke to get his haircut. He loves getting his haircut now (he used to not love it, he would scream and I would have to hold him in the chair.....thankfully he grew out of that phase & he looks forward to hair cut days!)
Seriously....this kid is the best...so glad I get to experience having a boy.
"Here mama..want some of my lolipop? It's strawberry!"
Now he looks 13 instead of 3 :(

 We got home & it was DUMPING rain. Yay El Nino! We need the rain desperately so that we can get out of this drought we are having here in California. I had to check the pool water because I was nervous it was going to overflow!
Made some afternoon tea....my favorite tea is Good Earth Sweet & Spicy. Love the quote on the tea bag.
Dinner tonight....Spicy Sausage & Spinach Pasta bake. One of our go-to meals. I need to blog this also!
I just realized I had a lot of spinach today :)

AfAfterthe kids were in bed it was time for a glass of wine & reading before bed.
This is what I am currently reading. I am about 200 pages in. 300 more to go. It was slow to start but now it is getting better. Have you read it?

So, there you have it. A snapshot of our 10th!
It was a busy day, but a productive day!

Why I Will Never March For Feminism

Recent marches in our nation's Capitol and around the country this weekend really got under my skin. I originally wrote a rebuke to the modern day feminist movement, but I deleted it. My words were not kind, and my censure was scathingly long. In hindsight, I compressed my original thoughts down to this theme - I cannot support modern day feminists. Historical figures have my gratitude but not the women who call themselves feminist leaders today.

The anger, the greed, the entitlement, the rage against everything - it deeply bothers me.
The berating, the swearing, the middle finger waving, the vulgarity - it offends me.
The praising of violence and destruction of property - it concerns me.
The constant comparing and offense taking over insignificant things - it annoys me.

Today's feminism is not about equality - it's about superiority.
Today's feminism is not about kindness - it's crude.
Today's feminists don't want to be on the same level as men - they want to squash men under their heels (or comfortable ballet flats.)

Instead, I support womanhood.
I would love to someday march for kindness, patience, and trust. The time for gentle strength has not passed. Women will always exert the ability to shape the world. I choose to identify with the influential religious leader who explained womanhood this way:
"Femininity is the divine adornment of humanity. It finds expression in your … capacity to love, your spirituality, delicacy, radiance, sensitivity, creativity, charm, graciousness, gentleness, dignity, and quiet strength. It is manifest differently in each girl or woman, but each … possesses it. Femininity is part of your inner beauty.”

Because I am female, it is easier for me to see the good in the world, to trust my ability to be an influence for good in the world, and to teach my children that good exists!

I echo the words of Margaret D. Nadauld, a previous leader of one of the world's largest organizations for young women. She counseled:
"The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity."

I choose finding joy in womanhood.
I will still change the world.
But I will never be a modern feminist.
I will never march down the streets, screaming profanities, and hypocritically calling for peace while inciting outrage. I will not choose to be offended at every turn. I will not throw a toddler-like temper tantrum because I don't get my way. I hope to never be a nasty woman. Instead, I will find fulfillment in womanhood, with all its beautiful gifts of intuition, kindness, patience, sensitivity, and gentle persuasion.

The world is full of humans, and so it will never be perfect. But there are better ways to feed the hungry, empower the downtrodden, and raise our spirits than to embrace the prejudiced feminist movement of victim-hood. I can teach tolerance in my home. I can share my blessings with others. I can raise my children to show love and generosity. I can seek out the lovely aspects of our world and celebrate that goodness.

To modern day feminists, I implore - don't make me ashamed to be a woman. Your rage does not define me, and your anger will not fulfill you. Let it go, and come back to the table as compassionate adults, not whiny toddlers. That's how we save the world. That's true woman power.
