I need to blog that trip....it was a BLAST! Here are some pics:

It was SO good to be back in Boulder!!! One of my favorite places on Earth.

Then this past weekend, Kevin & Claire were on a father daughter camping trip....Colorado football was in town playing Stanford, so Kate, Luke and I went to the game with my parents. Luke is obsessed with our mascot Chip.

This weekend, I am on the road again for Grammy's 105th Birthday.
Such a busy month it has been! Very fun, but busy!

I LOVE THIS SHOW.

What I'm Reading.....
Now that we are 2 months into the school year, I am getting back in the swing of things and I have had more time to read. After only reading 1 book in September, I am happy to report that I finished 4 books in October.

I finished Harry Potter:

I finally read Truly, Maldy, Deeply by Liane Moriarty.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Not my favorite book by Liane Moriarty.

Finding Jake:
This book was bruti-ful to read. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I just finished a Fall of Marigolds.

I read it in 3 days. LOVED it.
4.5 out of 5 stars.

What I'm Listening to.....
The Chainsmokers!
After seeing them in concert in Vegas a couple weeks ago, I am even more obsessed!
And, of course being back in Boulder last weekend, we heard them a ton!

What I'm Wearing.....
The weather is finally cooling off, so it's officially jeans & boots season!
Jeans // Sweater // Necklace // Booties

Jeans // Top Stitch Fix // Vest // Booties

What I’m doing this weekend.....
Going to visit my Grammy because it's her 105th birthday!!!!
Yes, you read that right....she is turning 105 years old.
AMAZING!

What I'm Looking Forward to next month.....
Soccer for the girls being over! I love it, but they each have practice 2 times a week, plus games.
I am ready for a break & not having to rush after school to get homework done & off to practice. I feel like a taxi most days since I am driving them around Monday through Thursday.

I am also looking forward to Thanksgiving! It's one of my favorite days of the year!

And, I love that November is when it finally starts feeling like Fall here in California.

It has been a really warm October...in the 80's & 90's all month long.
All our trees still have green leaves...when November arrives they finally turn orange & red and when the weather gets chilly. I haven't even worn boots yet this fall...just my booties & only 1 time so far because it's been so warm! I am looking forward to cooler weather!

Also in November, my college roommate & her family are coming our from Boston to stay with us like they do every year. We are all looking forward to their visit!

What else is new.....
My new favorite kitchen "appliance"
The Instant Pot.
I got it a few weeks ago & I am obsessed.

I am giving one away along with a $100 Amazon Gift Card.
Enter HERE if you haven't already!

Question of the month is:
What is your favorite Halloween memory/picture/tradition?
One of my favorite Halloween memories as a kid is carving pumpkins with my parents & sisters:
I also LOVED going Trick or Treating! I was all about the candy :) This was one of my favorite costumes as a kid...Smurfette. It was plastic. So 80's! Love it!!
As an adult, my favorite Halloween tradition having a Halloween party & our court party and trick or treating around neighborhood. Our neighborhood is such a fun place to go trick or treating.
You can see my Halloween Party posts HERE.

Day in the Life Heads Up for Fall 2016

It's October and I'm a few days late reminding you that it's time to capture your days in your lives!

(Summer 2016 compilation picture)
2016-07-12_0001

The details:

Any time from today until October 16th you should record your day in detail. That gives you almost two weeks to decide on a day.

It can be as specific or as general as you want. I personally tend to record these days as a note in my phone, including specific times of day as I'm psychotic with details. Totally not necessary for you to do the same, as simple is probably better and means it's less overwhelming! I try to jot down quotes from the kids, to mention my thoughts as things are happening, and to keep track of the nitty gritty details in a day. I would probably remember enough if I just sat down and tried to type it all a day or two later but I don't trust my mommy brain *that* much. So a note on my phone is a must for me.

Snap pictures as you go along, the easiest method being with your phone but if you are feeling extra energetic, a 'fancy' camera also works for a post like this. Sometimes just taking a screen shot of your phone to remember the time of day, or an email you read, the weather forecast, et cetera is helpful as you write up the posts. I also like the seemingly random pictures of messy houses, meals, receipts, pets, the scenery from your parking lot spot, your house, and so on. Making collages for your pictures is helpful when it's difficult to choose which images to post (always a serious issue for me). Again, get as detailed or as general as you want with the pictures, but I think the mundane details are what makes these posts interesting. Don't forget to get pictures of YOU in this post, either. Get your friends and family involved. Maybe purchase a selfie stick (I just got one and you can bet your butt I'll use it this time!) but step in front of the camera for this post.

My method is that I just email myself the iPhone 'note' from the day, and then I paste it into my blog post as a foundation. I'll go back and clean it up, elaborate on thoughts/events, and make sure it's written in English instead of just abbreviations from my note. Then I will add the pictures after that. Whatever method works for you though, as there are many ways to write about a single day in your life!

It's a lot of fun to read back on my own posts, and it's also quite entertaining to read everyone else's dayhttp://julia-transition.blogspot.com/2016/07/these-are-days-of-our-lives-summer-2016.html. If you want to play along this quarter, here is what to do:

1. Record any day from now until Sunday, October 16th. Type it up and turn it into a blog post. You can do it!

2. Email me the following to mylifeintransitionblog at gmail dot com by October 16th at midnight:

*your blog title,
*your location (state or country is fine),
*the link to your post,
*attach the file of the photo you want to be featured in the round up post.
*optional: give me your Instagram name, perhaps I will attempt to tag everyone over there if extra energetic.

3. I will post everyone's link and picture by October 19th here on my blog. Get the popcorn and clear your schedule for this one!

I love reading these posts from women all around the world, and encourage you to try it even if you aren't a blogger. And it's definitely not just for mommy bloggers, either! You could turn these posts into a photo book, you could let them live online if you have a blog, or you could just look back on them and reminisce about the glory days once life settles down a bit more (ha!). Laura, the original founder of this Day in the Life link up, also records an entire week during one of these quarterly sessions. That is something I've never tackled before, but maybe someday if I'm feeling particularly adventurous. I know she makes those posts into a photo album book and her family is going to greatly appreciate the time it took to record every day events.

I will do these quarterly: January, April, July, and October. USUALLY, you can expect to record your day and post about it in the first fourteen days, send it to me, and I will continue to post the round up by the twentieth of those months.

So pick your day (or week) and get to it!

a few funky flamingos halloween 2016

I'm SO excited about this year's halloween costumes!  I decided to skip the tutus this year- after three solid years of tutus we needed a change.. didnt stop me from dressing the sweetest Hamburgalar Baker in a cheeky tutu from trevi ave co for our trunk or treat party on Sunday, tho.  GAH she was so CAHyoot!
back up a couple months to when I was first introduced to p and the lion.. Britt came across a photo of a couple cuties wearing these AMAZING leg warmers and well made leotards and I was determined to figure out how in the world to use all of this and come up with one amazing and super fun costume.
alas. the "whimsical flamingo" idea came to life.. which I still had no idea what I was doing but I was going with it, ha!
hot pink leg warmers
black and white striped leggings
..and these AWESOME handmade felt wings.  there was a flamingo cape I had seen on IG and was searching everywhere for for them to wear that or something similar.. but you guys I'm SO glad I went with these wings instead.  I did end up finding those capes on the clearance rack at Target for like $5 bucks, but they would have covered up with detail of the ombre fringe of the leotard, so these wings were perfect!
high waisted boomers
..and the perfect topper: a mini crown made with orange glitter for the flamingo beak.
because this is halloween.. they are f u n k y and whimsical flamingos, after all:)  anything goes when it comes to costume building.  so even if it was a total mess in my head, it turned out so cute anyway.

taking my girls around the neighborhood this year is going to be SO FUN- Baker is really into carrying the bucket and holding it up to anyone in her little space to fill it with goodies.  Jolie has been asking me to wear her leotard every single day since we tried them on, and Parker is very excited to have her makeup done!
holidays are just so amazing with these babes.
Happy Halloween!

10 on 10 November 2016

10 pictures on the 10th day of the month!
{Document a snapshot of your life & find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}
ten on ten button

These photos were taken on November 10th.....but I am just now getting around to post them!
I can't believe we are almost halfway into November..that means it is almost Thanksgiving!
October thru December is my favorite time of year...Fall...Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Love it all!
The view walking to my classroom. Our campus is so pretty.
Getting grading done....I LOVE these sharpies!
They are perfect for grading & also writing things in my planner!

In class, we worked on a matching review game.
Then, I picked up Luke and we went home and I made him lunch and let him pick out a treat after...he picked "Spittles"
We had a little over an hour before the girls were out of school, so we headed to Trader Joes. This past weekend I was headed to a beach house with some girls from my Rodan + Fields team, so I needed to get some snacks for the weekend. You can never go wrong with Trader Joes snacks!
While I was checking out, Luke drew on the chalk board:
We got home, unloaded groceries. My mother in law picked up the girls and then I got things organized at home and packed.
Then my friend Tasha and I headed to the airport to pick up Angie who flew in from Michigan. We met up with Caroline and had dinner at Scoma's in SF.  My meal was delicious!
We saw cable cars & since Angie is from Michigan and this was her first time in San Francisco, we had to do a cable car photo!
 Love these girls!
We then headed to the world famous Buena Vista for an Irish Coffee:
It ws such a fun night! The Buena Vista is iconic in SF. My dad loves it!

So, there you have it! My 10 on 10 on November 10th!
I love documenting the 10th each month, it's so fun to find the beauty in the ordinary days!
