Baby 3 40 weeks 2 days Final pregnancy post!
7.10.14: Forty plus two: My last day being pregnant!!!

Today started off really rough---I'm going to be real with you guys. I woke up at 12:30 am to pee, and then again at 3:30 am and could not get my brain to shut off. Horrible thoughts swirling in my head, negativity, anxiety in the wee hours of the morning. Like, what if something is wrong with my baby and that is why he hasn't come out on his own? What if something is wrong with my body and the induction tomorrow will fail and I will always regret making this decision? A c-section is not the end of the world, and neither is a child with special needs. But I just am feeling a lot of WORRIES today because it's basically go time. I know, I know---it's awful to think this way, but this morning I lost the mental battle of staying positive.
So I came downstairs around 4:30 and worked on some belly picture montages, blog posts, etc. I was FINE when distracted. And when the kids came down with Nate later, he asked if I was alright and I lost it. You know that feeling when you are in a funk but holding it together and as soon as someone says, 'Are you okay?' you immediately start bawling? That was me. 'Just frustrated and over it and tired?' he asked. Um yes. All of the above and then some. He tried to comfort me, saying he was proud of me for hanging in there and doing a great job carrying his son---which only made me roll my eyes, because I don't feel like I've done ANYTHING (such as birth the baby) other than ride an emotional roller coaster this past week. It's been rough at times, guys. But it's going to be just fine.
Because tomorrow is induction day! Nate thinks I will go into labor on my own tonight and I think he is delusional (as I sit on the exercise ball and fight off a few contractions....which likely means NOTHING since they've been here all week+).
The rest of the day was fun. We took the kids to the playground, I got a nice nap, I took Truman to get a haircut and then we all went with Tony and Lois to dinner and to get dessert. We chose the same restaurant we ate at the night I went into labor with Cecelia and also the same coffee shop for dessert. No coincidence there! The kids were a bit wild and have been out of sorts today but I'm sure they can sense something is going on. CC is totally attached to mommy in the worst way, much more than usual. My baby. I hope she is alright tomorrow and the next day without me.
Tonight I kissed Truman and CC goodnight and explained that we can say an official goodbye in the morning (probably). We will leave here at 6:30 am to get the show on the road. Tony will come over to be with the kids, Lois will come after work and my mom and dad will fly in by 1:30. Such a special time!
It's all very surreal. I can't quite wrap my head around giving birth tomorrow. I mean, I've done it before and I know I can do it again but oh man, the nerves! I'm not sure of the plan for pitocin versus just breaking my water, or what. I hope it goes quickly and smoothly and I just want to see this baby boy. And kiss him and nurse him and tell him he is a stinker. And then hold him non-stop for a solid few days;) GAH, I cannot wait!!!
I feel like I've been pregnant forever. FOR.EV.ER. And obviously, the end result of pregnancy is a baby but it's odd to accept that this is my last night with this big belly. With this active baby rolling and punching and kicking me from the inside. Tomorrow he will be out: crying, nursing, pooping, peeing, being generally magical. It's so freaking cool.
I'll miss pregnancy though, which I know is annoying to say especially in light of how much I've complained about being overdue. Pregnancy is amazing, it's a gift, and it's something I will always remember with a tender heart. I like being pregnant. But I do not like being overdue;) So there's that.
Any and all prayers, good vibes, and thoughts appreciated of course. I am feeling the love already with sweet comments here, on IG, and FB from my virtual friends around the world----seriously, so appreciated. A few emails and messages I've gotten from you guys have made me cry because you get it. Being overdue is hard---not the hardest thing ever, and it will NOT matter after tomorrow. But it's been a wild ride. Baby boy is already teaching me lessons, like YOU CANNOT PLAN ANYTHING, MOM! Because obviously I haven't learned that in my 33 years, and two kids schooling me all of the time.
I will update here once he comes, and Instagram (@mrsjuliagoolia) and Facebook (My Life in Transition Blog) will be priorities, too.
A few final belly pictures for you, since I know you will miss being bombarded with eleventy-hundred angles of my bump:
Caught a picture of a contraction today---can you see the difference in the top of my belly? Suuuuuper tight. I had to flip one of the pictures to make it the same side view but you get the idea.

Video montage of weekly belly pictures--because why else would I take them but for a fun comparison at the end?
All third trimester belly pictures:

All belly pictures, weeks 5-40:

And finally, assuming I don't have this baby in my arms in the next 3 hours (ha!): The night before labor began with each baby. (Final belly pictures) Awwwwww.

See you on the flip side!

33 weeks A Pineapple
Thirty-Three weeks: 4.11.12
Photo Thoughts: Who needs to take pictures outside when you have a brand new house with great light indoors? And Truman hasn't been in my pictures that much so he had to come out and play a bit this time. Looking pretty big, huh? I didn't realize baby girl had such a growth spurt until I looked at these pictures compared to the past few weeks. Woah.
Size of baby: A pineapple according to BC or a honeydew melon according to TB. I love pineapple and think it was one of those fruits that seemed SO big, way back in my first trimester. And now I'm here!
Cravings: Had another fabulous burger/fries/custard combo last week that was divine. But no true cravings around here, other than just loving the taste of all food.
What I love: Settling into our house, so that I can focus on the remaining weeks of this pregnancy! Love that this is where we will raise our kids. Love spending time with my little family of three before everything changes with baby girl's arrival. Finally feeling relaxed and content after our big move.
What I'm looking forward to the most: Holding my girl for the first time. I just can't freaking wait, you guys.
Worries: I'm starting to worry more about high blood pressure, just because I know mine spiked at 34 weeks last time. I realize it might not even happen this time, but I'm starting to get more nervous about that whole annoying process again. Also, during our big move I was sure I'd overdone it physically. I was really really tired, having more BH contractions, and feeling super uncomfortable. I'm really not the best at just chilling out and 'directing' things, as I'd really prefer to get in the middle and do it myself. But after Friday's chaos, I knew I had to slow it down a bit. And so far baby girl is behaving. Really don't want to have this child anytime soon.
What is different this time around: Last time with Truman's pregnancy I was a nesting fool who was deep cleaning the house and organizing and decorating like crazy. I'd just completed my last baby class on breastfeeding and was looking obviously pregnant. This time I'm still into the nesting thing, but only because we have been unpacking boxes and organizing our entire lives instead of 'just' the nursery. And I still look obviously pregnant, and I believe my belly is still bigger right now than it was last time.
Symptoms: Finally starting to get a little uncomfortable up in here. My upper back hurts if I sit too long, my belly feels incredibly heavy at the end of the day, I find it difficult to get into a comfortable position in almost any chair, and my stomach is so freaking tight and stretched I think it might pop soon. Obviously, with the move last week, my back has been hurting and my calf muscles have been on the verge of cramping up, too. Not too pretty for someone who has been flying in this pregnancy without any aches or pains for the most part. But still, really not too bad for being 33 weeks pregs.
Sleep: Like a rock. Although it's a little harder to roll over and my legs keep trying to cramp on me. And I won't have to pee at all but then in point two seconds I will be ready to burst. Very odd.
Movement: I think I can tell where her little butt is right now, wedged under my left ribs. She is still making those big, slow movements consistently but I really only notice it when I'm not walking around. Her busiest time is definitely in the evenings, so I'm picturing myself with a fussy baby from about 6 pm until 10 pm in a few more weeks.
The belly: Large. High. Belly button out. And extremely round. Still with that sensitive skin at the top of my bump, too. I have no idea how much longer I can go before I get stretch marks. Inspection of the belly region (the part I can see) happens daily, though, and so far so good!
Milestones: She is now 18 inches long, and about 4-5 pounds. Can that be possible? That's like a real baby!! Apparently she is all about brain development this week, along with hardening bones and practice breathing. Eek!
Amusing comments from the general public: I didn't work a whole lot this week with the move, so I avoided a lot of my common traps of annoying comments with patients. But I'm still getting a lot of wide eyes when I say my due date. It never gets old, I suppose. :)
Best moment of the week: Moving into our first house. I feel so incredibly blessed and overwhelmed and excited for the memories that my family will have inside these walls that it's hard to explain. I sort of can't believe we survived. And now to get working on that nursery...

Twenty Weeks
Holla at your girl. I'm halfway done, baby! Five months pregnant, 20 weeks, and housing one of these giant fruits:
A cantaloupe, really? Wasn't it just a blueberry yesterday? I can just imagine a round cantaloupe in there, can't you? {Also, please note my giant boobs. Out. Of. Control}Big freaking milestone this week? We're going to see the little nugget's goodies on Wednesday! I really hope he or she is feeling like an exhibitionist and spreads 'em wide open for us to get a peek, but I guess we shall see. I also have a regular OB appointment on Tuesday, where I will get weighed. Since I do not own a scale {nor do I ever plan to own one, since it makes me a crazy loon thinking way too much about the number}, it should be interesting to see what is in store for me. Let's remember I had gained a total of 6 pounds at my 16 week appointment. And lately, my butt feels like a giant squishy pad of tissue. Big. And dare I say it, FAT.
I believe that any pregnant woman gets about 3 free passes throughout her pregnancy to complain about feeling fat. So I'm NOT going to use one of my freebies in this post but OMG...I am never wearing those black Nike pants for another belly shot again. My arse looks like a giant flat reflective elephant butt. I'm hoping it's just the pants combined with the flash and the shadows, but disgusting! Also, if I have gained more than 15 pounds total I am COMPLETELY blaming Nate. You see, he's practically force feeding his pregnant wife in the name of making his baby healthy. I'm all, 'I'm full' and he's all 'Have another cookie, dear.' I'm like a force-fed cow, and it's all his fault. Rant over, I still get three more freebies, my dears.....no eye rolling from you!
Other bits of awesomeness this week? On Friday night I was sitting at this very computer when baby started kicking up a storm. I put my hand on my belly like always, and discovered that it was strong enough to feel from the outside. We had a few false alarms before, when I got all excited and ran over to Nate to make him feel but then the baby was all shy and shaken up from my sudden movement. So this time I slowly sauntered over to Nate and made him gently feel my tummy. Sure enough, he felt the kick nice and strong! He felt his child moving inside of me, you guys. How freaking cool is that?
Even cooler? The next morning, on Saturday, as baby went to town again, I pulled up my shirt and SAW my stomach move. I called Nate to come over and sure enough, he saw it too. So we went from no external movement to both seeing and feeling it. How insane is that?
Other way cool things I accomplished this week? PURCHASES! I finally sucked it up and shopped for some real maternity clothes. Mostly because of my giant elephant butt and the fact that my tummy makes shirts creep up to places they shouldn't go. I hit up Old Navy for these babies:

And some work pants. Come on, these are so HAWT, aren't they? They came in talls and I figured even if the enormous panel is too much right now I'll probably need it in a few weeks?
And these fabulous gray leggings from maternity Gap. These were the most expensive piece, of course, but don't they look SO comfy?

And after scouring Craigslist every freaking day for at least a month, I finally found our dresser/changing table combo. It's all the way up in Madison, so we have to drive up there and get it Friday morning before I fly to St. Louis which sort of sucks. BUT, just look at the potential here!
It was custom made from real wood, no nasty particle board, 15 years ago. I plan on repainting the white and replacing the knobs with some pimped out ones. That strap on top will be perfect for a new printed changing pad. PROJECT! Another freaking project and another awesome nursery find on Craigslist for a whopping $75. I'm starting to get addicted, my friends. Next up? The rocker. I'm totally stalking C-list every day like a crazy but I can't help it.So yeah, on Friday I'm flying down to St. Louis to throw Hannah's baby shower and I cannot wait. My mom is picking me up from the airport and we are going to pull everything together before the big event on Saturday. Let me just tell you, planning a baby shower for your best friend when you live hundreds of miles away ain't easy. But I'm feeling pretty good about how it's all coming together thanks to the help of some other lovely STL ladies. And dude, baby showers are JUST as fun to plan as bridal showers, if not more fun. Lots of pictures to follow, I'm sure.
Enough about me, what about that cantaloupe in my gut? Well this week baby is starting to form poop. Yep, you read that right. Meconium is forming in his or her tummy to get ready for that awesomely disgusting first baby poop. Also the genitals are fully formed and ready for our viewing. I know I complained about waiting until 20.5 weeks for our big US but it really wasn't that awful to wait. And plus, baby is moving around like a fetus on acid nowadays so I guess it's better that we waited a bit.
So that's 20 weeks: halfway mark, an elephant butt, external movement, maternity clothes, and a new Craigslist purchase. And lots of anticipation for Wednesday!

Thirty Two Weeks
8 months along (if you go by the confusing '40 weeks=10 months' of pregnancy thing). Nearing the end, folks! And here is one of my 'very pregnant' new maternity tops, as Nate likes to call it:)
I think the belly is just rounding out more, becoming less torpedo-like but is still growing up a storm along with my chesticle region. And although I doubted the lady who measured my boobs as a 38C last week, I must admit my defeat. I went to Target and tried on a bunch of bras thinking I was probably more like a 36B since I have been wearing an old, grungy 34B that I found from my college days and was finding it to be more like a torture device than a bolder holder. But the lady who measured me was right because the girls are a TRUE 38C now. I cannot freaking believe it. Do you know what it's like to move from a 'barely A' to a near D cup? Freaking amazing and scary at the same time, that what it's like:)
Other body news: my belly button suddenly gave way and is teetering on the edge of being an outie. I noticed this for the first time on Saturday night when I was all, 'Um, I think part of the button is poking out a lot more right now' and Nate was all, 'Yup, it's on the verge.' It's held on for so long and now I'm preparing myself to see that little nipple-like nub pop through very soon. The view from above is pretty entertaining at this point:
Note to any wild and carefree 18 year old girls reading this (aside from the standard 'why are you reading this old lady's blog right now?' question I'd like to ask): if you think getting your belly button pierced is cool and trendy right now, fast forward about ten years when your tight little belly is housing a little human being. That extra hole you just acquired will always remind you of your previous life, even when you are an old pregnant hag like me sporting a baby bump with accompanying belly ring hole. Fun stuff:)
Also, I started my prenatal yoga class last week and I'm kind of obsessed. It's all zen and stretchy and meditation based just like I thought. But I also got more of a workout than I anticipated, although it's not anywhere near those cardio/running sessions I so often crave. It was me with about 15 other pregnant ladies in all different stages of our pregnancy trying to be all calm and stuff. I even met a friend who is due 2 weeks after me. We walked out of class together and she said, 'You look really great' so immediately I wanted to be her best friend and hold hands singing songs together. I told her the same, we made small talk, and then she said she'd see me next week. I'm totally in Kindergarten again, making new little friends, but it's pretty fun to bond with a random stranger who shares the event of prepping for their first born with me. Can't wait for this week's class already.
The other big even from the week was the trip to Missouri for baby showers #1 and #2. These are going to have their own rightful posts but let me just summarize: I am the luckiest chick in the whole wide world. The feeling of gratitude and humility I have after these two showers is overwhelming. Our friends and family are amazing people and both Nate and I feel incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. Yes, we received a lot of baby gear but more than that....spending time with our peeps from all walks of life really makes you feel loved. This baby is entering a world with a ridiculous support system and it's enough to make a pregnant lady get all emotional over the whole thing. I just can't help it, you guys. And OMG....I have a lot of organizing to do in the nursery now:) Pictures to come. We also have our breastfeeding class and my 32 week OB appointment on Monday, plus I am getting a prenatal massage on Friday. It's going to be a great week, folks.
I'm off to go snuggle with my first born baby Henry because I missed him so much this weekend it hurt a little bit. Perhaps the hormones are a little out of control at week 32, huh? :)

Nineteen Weeks
Two things this week's fruit reminds me of: 1. The hilarious SNL skit with Mango (Mahhhhngo), and 2. The most awesome clothing store I visited in Spain, besides Zara:
I can almost see a little mango in there, can't you?Meh. Still not TRULY looking pregnant. But dang, all of a sudden I have the lower back sway I swore I'd avoid, don't I?
So what's new this week in the pregnancy front? Let's see...my uterus (from here on to be called the 'ute') is big. I mean, seriously, when I lay down flat it pops out a bit. In between my two hip bones used to be a land of nothingness, sinking downward, empty. And now? A little mound of hardened ute muscles. Weird, huh? And plus, when I poke around I can feel the top of it pretty substantially right under my belly button. Sometimes it's harder than others, almost like it's doing some sort of crunches on it's own. Creepy and cool, no?
Baby is still kicking up a storm, except Saturday night and into Sunday I had a minor panic attack because I couldn't remember the babe kicking too much since Friday. I began speaking in soothing tones to my abdomen, rubbing it, and then I even borrowed one cup of Nate's 'real' coffee on Sunday morning to light a fire under baby's butt. That didn't work, of course, but a few hours later the babe started moving around again with abandon, as if to say, 'Look lady, you are a total psycho and I'm fine in here. Just resting. Why don't you do the same while you can?' And that was my stint with a near-meltdown THIS week. Many more to come, I'm sure.
Speaking of meltdowns, guess what I did ALL FREAKING SATURDAY LONG? I painted the nursery! Alone! In a well-ventilated, freezing cold nursery room while blaring Miley Cyrus and Brittney Spears. Not sure many mature mommies-to-be crank Miley and Brit while painting nurseries but I guess I'm one big oxymoron.
I was too excited to sleep in on Saturday morning, so I was up and prepping the room by 8 am. Nate had to work and I was all over this project, literally counting down the hours until I could transform this sucker into my vision. I slapped on the first streak of paint at 9:15 and finished the second coat, finishing trim, and inside of the window box by.........3:30. Three-freaking-thirty in the afternoon. For a miniature nursery. Are you serious?
Anyway, Nate and I picked out the color on Friday night and I'm so glad he went with me to be my sanity. I could NOT decide between all of the shades of aqua and finally Nate just grabbed this swatch out of my hand (as 15 others fluttered to the ground) and announced Rushing Stream to be the color of our nursery.
(I paired it with the pink in the rug because all day I was feeling like baby is a girl, and I will totally pull this shade of pink in the room if so). We also used the "Cool Rain" darker shade inside of the window box.
So here we go...
My 'helper' ready to work hard, of course:
And the after...
The darker shade of the window box doesn't 'pop' as much as I had hoped but I honestly do not care at this point. I am SO done painting for a while.
Isn't it just glorious with the rug?
And the crib? All of a sudden it looks so fancy-shmancy with the aqua walls, no? It's almost like a Tiffany blue I guess but not quite. Rich for sure, just like my $40 crib.
And really, with the old vintage style of the whole room, I think the shade works well. I was SO worried about the natural wood with a bright color but really....I love it!
So let us remember the humble beginnings of the nursery (former guest room) by looking at awful panoramic shots. Before:
And the current 'during':
Totally psychedelic rug, man. And I'm not sure why the wall color looks so cold here but whatev. You get the idea. Do you likey? Are you envisioning the big picture with fun bold bedding, curtains, window seat cushion, and artwork? Sigh.
So hello to 19 weeks: minor panic attacks, near meltdowns involving painting for six hours, Rushing Stream aqua, and only ONE MORE WEEK until the big ultrasound! Whoo hoo!

22 weeks Baby 4
3.7.17 | 22w3d pregnant

Photo thoughts: Yep, I'm pregnant!
Size of baby: A coconut, a spaghetti squash, a papaya...something like that. I think I read baby is about a pound now
The Bump: Seems big but people are still shocked when I say I'm pregnant. I think bundling up in winter coats and layers really helps with this effect of hiding a pregnancy. Belly button is officially out in the evenings, ready to make a debut with any semi-fitted shirts.
Cravings/Aversions: Still hungry all.of.the.time. Still enjoying sweets, peanut butter, sparkling waters as a treat, bulletproof coffee each morning, and yogurt. Also, Girl Scout cookies will be my demise. I have an OB appointment this week and I fear the scale. Also, Truman wanted me to make frosted brownies for his birthday treat at school, and then ALSO wanted me to make my homemade chocolate chip cookies for that Friday as a treat. Then we had cake for his party, so our dessert selections are out of control right now.
What I’m loving: The second trimester of pregnancy. Watching my oldest turn seven like it's no big deal to grow up and turn into a legit man-child. Visiting my mom and Memaw this week for Truman's birthday. Moving right along on house sketches for the addition. Also really enjoying my office job, although it's hard to keep it to 20 hours a week, always seems like I could stay longer but I don't want to burn out.
What I’m anticipating: Our house being in shambles during the renovation, getting bigger and more tired, and then birthing a baby. SO MANY CHANGES ON THE HORIZON.
Miss anything? Running, my old clothes, alcohol, and feeling excessively energetic and ready to tackle the world. Also, feeling more at peace and gaining perspective with each pregnancy, so I know this time is truly fleeting.

Worries? Not really! Occasionally I worry that with all of the changes coming up for our family this year, someone is going to have a mental breakdown. But then I remember that all of these changes are amazing ones and we will just have to handle the stress that comes along with change. A new baby, new jobs, house construction...we've got this!
Differences between pregnancies? With Porter, we had just celebrated Truman's birthday (same), a name was picked (nope), I just had strep throat (NOPE), mom and Memaw just left after a visit (same), I was planning the nursery (um, nope), and we had just put bunk beds in Truman's room for Cecelia to share. People were noticing my bump and I was mostly loving being pregnant. Yep!
With Cecelia , I was craving pizza and diet soda, NOT drinking coffee, and we had our inspection on the house so I was getting all ready to decorate the heck out of it. This post made me want a Diet Dr. Pepper and I cannot believe I wasn't drinking coffee back then. The horror.
With Truman, I was freaking barely showing. We had just bought a camcorder (!) and we settled on a name. Seriously, 2009 was a long time ago! The only thing similar to this pregnancy is I wasn't staying asleep very well, and I'm pregnant with a boy. Everything else is incredibly different and I admit, I love reminiscing about the days of my first pregnancy. What a sweet, simple time!
How I’m feeling: Pretty good overall, but definitely more tired, I have a cold so that blows, and feeing my body change with pregnancy is always...interesting. I'm embracing it for all that it's worth, though, knowing this is really the last time. Side note: Truman says we will have a fifth baby someday and we remind him that he can grow up and have his own family next!
Sleep: Meh, not as great anymore. I do have a cold so I can't breathe well, and then if I wake up I cannot get back to bed. Also, I feel like I sleep very lightly and am aware of every repositioning effort throughout the night. I took a nap on Sunday because Porter was up FOUR times Saturday night and I wondered how in the heck I'm going to live on broken sleep again. I'm telling myself it's very different when you wake for a sweet newborn who needs to nurse versus a loud two year old who knows better. And also, not being pregnant means better sleep. I'll just get used to it again, but I'm definitely not right now.
Movement: Yes, right now as we speak, he is kicking my bladder. You can see movement from the outside and he is getting hiccups occasionally. He feels like he's literally doing cartwheels in there, as I feel kicks or punches literally everywhere!
I also want to make this category about my own movement or activity level. This week I rediscovered my Bar Method Pregnancy Workout DVD. I love/hate it. So hard. So good. It's a far cry from the cardiovascular exercise that running is, but that's okay because I need to strengthen my bod and not just beat it to a pulp on the pavement. I've also gone for a few walks outside or on the treadmill, as Weeds is my favorite treadmill show right now and it's getting really good/horrible.
Milestones: First comment of, 'is this your first baby?' is always fun, especially when the questioner follows that up with wide eyes to my 'no, this is my fourth'. Veteran mom status!
Names: I'll make this a topic until we decide;) We have a list and some are starred, but I'm feeling very 'meh' about them now. I don't know why, because we have some perfectly awesome choices. Requirements: cannot rhyme with the other kids, but it needs to coordinate with their names. I don't really want the same starting initial as their names if possible. We like names that aren't super common but aren't completely made up. Very partial to Thomas the Train names, like Porter:) I seem to be drawn to nicknames this time, and specifically a one syllable nickname seems adorable for our boy. I like a few really strange ones that somehow Nate hasn't totally vetoed, but I think I'll keep searching online and in my head/everyday life for The One. Plenty of time to decide, I know.
This boy wants a name ASAP, I can tell.

Best Moment of the Week: Celebrating Truman's birthday alllllll week long. It was also Dr. Seuss week at school, so not only did he get to be the start student for his birthday and do fun things each day with that, he also got to dress in strange clothing and participate in school spirit while being 'wacky'. Mom and Memaw both flew in for a short visit, we had a birthday party for T on Saturday that was a ton of fun, and it was a week full of gushing over our biggest guy. He is so helpful and smart, it's hard to describe...but he deserves a post of his own on this blog, soon!

Sibling Talk: Did I mention that Truman requests to kiss my belly goodbye every morning before he walks into school? He give me a hug and a kiss, then says, 'baby boy!' and I let him kiss my winter coated belly. Cecelia has told me many times that she is 'super excited' for the baby to be born. Porter mostly likes to call himself the baby, but he did get to hold a newborn this week and loved it. 'She is so tiny, Mommy,' is what he told me as he held our neighbor's sweet baby girl. He even ooh'd and ahhh'd over baby Cleo, kissed her forehead, then said, 'How am I going to play with my trains while I hold the baby?' Logistics of being a big brother!

Porter Five Weeks
Notables from this past week:
Porter is smiling already!! I turn to mush when I see that gummy grin and love this milestone since it feels like, 'Hey, this kid might actually like me a little bit.' It's nice to feel loved by this little creature who is so loved by us! It seems early to see smiles at 4-5 weeks but I'll take it...never gets old.

He's still sleeping the same at night, up twice usually and back down without much fussing. I'm going to try using the co-sleeper instead of the MamaRoo now just because carrying the swing up and down the stairs every day is a hassle. And it's probably time that Porter starts sleeping relatively flat, I guess, but I sure hate to mess with a good thing. So we'll see, I promise nothing and still don't think P will sleep in a swing until high school either way. Daytime naps range from epic 3 hour stretches to just cat napping all day long for 10 minutes. Still looooooves to be held or worn for all naps and he's pulling the 'my eyes pop open as soon as you put me down' trick, no matter how tired he must be. So any nap that lasts more than 5 minutes in the swing or the Boppy is a big success in my book. If I held him or wore him all day he might sleep non-stop, he seriously loves it that much, and swaddles really help him snooze, too.

(got a Wubbanub pacifier and he loves it! So do I.)

Still nursing well but I had my first clogged duct last weekend and wanted to die from the pain. I actually thought it was quickly turning into mastitis (would have been my fourth time total with the Big M) but somehow I massaged the clog out and forced Porter to eat non-stop in addition to pumping. Something worked, thank goodness, but I sort of forgot how painful the clogs can be. I wish I knew what caused them for me----nothing really obvious, that's for sure.
I guess he's eating maybe every 2-3 hours during the day but I'm not tracking it at all. I'm trying to pump each day but many times the hours slip away and I just can't seem to work it into the routine consistently. Meh. Whatever. Not a huge priority at the moment, I suppose.

Porter still has acne but it's a little better this week and so far he doesn't have cradle cap. I know I'm severely biased but I think still think he is the most beautiful, handsome little fella out there---even with his pimples! He seems to be changing by the day, and is really coming into his own. Definitely not Truman's clone anymore! He's all Porter and it's fun to imagine what he'll look like as he gets bigger.
The best comparison I could do for 5 weeks---totally different, right? T v. P.

It's still pretty early to report on his personality but overall he seems extremely content and happy, especially if we are holding him/carrying him around. He will stare at windows and ceiling fans for a few minutes if I have to leave him alone but usually that doesn't last for long, and then he's like, 'Where did everyone go? I'm lonely! What am I supposed to do when I'm awake?' or something. P-man is not too crabby in the evenings anymore, and I find that we can usually fix the fussies with a swaddle, nursing/pacifier, and being held. SO much easier than a few weeks ago. He still screams as if the car seat is a torture device but the last two times in the van seemed a little less traumatizing. Allll about walking everywhere we can because the Ergo is 10000x more pleasant than the car seat! Bath time is hit or miss and he seems to love diaper changes for some reason---but really, he only freaks out in the car seat and sometimes if he's been awake/soaking it all in for too long and becomes overstimulated. Love this happy baby!! Even if he is cross eyed at times and this picture is a little blurry.

Before he let us have it for putting him in the seat

We haven't even had to use our secret weapon for our previous fussy babies: Dave Matthew's 'Two Step' and the iTunes visualizer were both in heavy rotation for Truman and Cecelia at this point. I still laugh when I think about Nate putting the co-sleeper directly in front of the TV at the duplex, blasting DMB, with the psychedelic visualizer flashing from the screen...such a hilarious sight to see my baby blankly staring at the boob tube at one month of age. But it worked to calm him down, and you better believe we will pull out all of the stops again if needed!
(at his one month appointment---no shots but even that didn't make him too angry. The car ride to and from did, of course).

Now that my mom is gone and it's just me with the kiddos during the day, I can see that Cecelia is going to be the most 'needy' child and the one who demands the most of my attention. Porter is easy compared to his two year old sister right now! But that's another post for another time. ;) I know this could change and hopefully it's just a phase but having three kids in general is not particularly overwhelming for me. There have been so many awesome moments when I feel like, 'I totally have this Mom of Three thing!' I mean, I was even brave enough to bake cookies with all three kids alone----bold move, indeed. I only had to raise my voice three times which is insane.

But when Cecelia is inconsolable for some unknown reason, Porter needs to nurse, and Truman is whining about me providing him with the incorrectly colored drinking cup it's reeaaalllllly challenging to maintain my composure. Especially when it's been an off day for all of us and then the evening comes and we are all just OVER IT. Luckily there is plenty of coffee in the mornings, cold beer in the evenings, tomorrow is a new day, and kids are incredibly forgiving when mommy briefly loses her freaking mind.

So yeah, it's going pretty well so far with three kids and no other adult helpers during the day! A few rough patches here and there of course, but I'm typing this while two out of three kids nap, after a fun morning with this crew, and it's a Friday. So life is (currently) good;)

Life with three! Baby wearing and refereeing brawls in the bathtub.

First time to the Wisconsin State Fair also deserves it's own mention in this post. He slept 99% of the time we were there so he missed out on some great people-watching and didn't even get to see his first cream puff. Sad.

Attempted cloth specifically for this photoshoot. Will have to re-do it at some point because P was not happy about showing off his dipes. And CC's legs are obscenely long!!

And also, tummy time is seriously hilarious. Fatigues in about 10 seconds. Heavy head!

(Truman took this one and Porter's little hands under his chin make me laugh)

Because I don't remember anything about the early weeks with my other kids...
Cecelia at 5 weeks: she was spitting up huge amounts and was growing quite a bit, almost ready for 0-3 month outfits. Porter has not been a big spitter at ALL which is really appreciated and he has been in his 3 month outfits for a solid few weeks already. She was 10lbs 2oz at her check up which is just a little less than the boys, and I remember being shocked by that since CC seemed to much tinier than Tru! I had just done my first two nights alone with both kids, since Nate was out of town, and I survived with the help of my in-laws in the evenings. I think I could probably handle all three kids alone overnight now, too, since those 4:40-7:30 pm hours are already the WORST and I am on my own with those twice per week anyway. I didn't write about her nighttime sleep but I have a feeling it was pretty similar to the two wake ups Porter is boasting right now, too. And then it got really really horrendous so I just hope Porter doesn't follow suit with that sleep regression stuff.
Truman at 5 weeks: I was still forcing the kid to wear newborn clothes for some reason and I forgot about his little fall from a bouncy seat before this! He was just getting his acne and my mom had just left from a visit, so I was feeling kind of down about everything---specifically like I was NOT good enough at getting Truman to sleep. HA! He was on the verge of smiling, was sleeping really well with two wake ups around 3 am and 6 am (woah, even better than P), and I was kind of shocked at how often I had to nurse Fatty McGee. I was just coming to terms with feeding on demand and letting go of the concept of a 'schedule' with anything in life. Ah, to have just one child again with the energy to overanalyze it all.
So that's it! My boy is rocking the 5 week mark, for sure. And this post goes to show you that even though I thought there were nothing to report, I still managed to make this lengthy in words and included tons of pictures. Go figure.
