hence the title of this blog

Another transition in life. Here we go...

My dearest baby boy Truman,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the best three months of my life. My maternity leave spent with you has been nothing short of amazing and I would not trade a second of it for anything. It's been exciting and frightening, energizing and exhausting, magical, dream-like, and has brought me more contentment than I knew was possible. I've worried, cried, worried some more, and then cried a little bit more about our special time together ending. One thing you've already taught me in your 11 weeks of life is that when I worry about you, it's usually unfounded. Remember how I fretted over you in the beginning of my pregnancy, wondering if you'd make it? Or how I was scared to death of being induced two weeks early, fearing you wouldn't be healthy? Silly mommy, right? I know you will be a big boy for daddy and grandpa and the daycare workers. Please please please take the bottles they offer you, baby. And try not to cry too much:)

Truman, you are too little now to understand but I love you with every ounce of my being. I love you more than I know how to express and would do just about anything to extend our work-free days together. But as you will soon find out, life isn't always fair and we don't always get what we want. I'm learning that lesson once again at twenty-nine years of age and I'll be there for you as you learn it, too. I truly believe that God has a plan for us, Truman, and right now I'm supposed to go back to work for our family. Please know that when I'm gone I will still think of your fat little cheeks and smile, I'll yearn to sniff your head and squeeze your tummy, and above all I will continue to love you when I'm away. And then when I get to see you again in the evenings and on my days off be prepared for some major cuddle sessions, mister man.

And so now we are both entering a new phase of our lives complete with lots of changes from our 'norm.' We can do this, buddy.

Love, Mommy

dear blog you may be second best but you could rise up a notch or two

{UPDATE Friday morning: It's back!! My IG is back! Got an email this morning apologizing for the inconvenience. I will keep this post up anyway, even though my rant is old news at this point}

Well, this has been an interesting night.

While giving Cecelia a bath, I decided to check Instagram. I fully admit to having an obsession with IG and would love to say that I never focus on my phone when I'm with my kids, but let's get real here. I do check my phone and IG frequently because I really enjoy connecting/sharing/documenting life via this stupid little app.

Yes, stupid. IG is stupid to me right now. If we are friends on FB you know why I say this.

So anyway, I'm checking IG and it returns me to the log in page, which I think I've seen about once ever. Hmm, weird. But I plugged away my user name and guessed on my password. Got it wrong. Tried again. Got it right but also got a red alert saying, 'Your account has been disabled due to terms of service violations.'

WHAT?

Okay, don't panic. Play with the cute baby in the tub. Must be a mistake, maybe I got locked out because I tried the wrong password.

Then I get a text from my mom asking if I removed my pictures from IG because she couldn't see any.

Oh, crap.

That is when my heart rate sped up a bit and I just knew this wasn't good. After getting CC out of the tub I looked up the actual terms of service of IG. Noted the 'no nudity' policy and wondered if my beloved naked baby butts were to blame for this. But seriously? Those images were pretty old and incredibly harmless and HELLO---they are baby butts, people. And adorable, if you ask me, but whatever.

So anyway, I keep flipping through the IG site and there is no phone number to call. There's some mumbo jumbo on the site about 'disabled account' and how you are basically at their mercy and pretty much screwed, 'unable to restore your account' if they deem it unacceptable. I google and see other people complaining about this in the past and how emailing them doesn't even matter because IG doesn't return their emails.

Sweet.

Again, try not to freak out. Text a few friends on IG to inform them of the non-freak out I am having (ha). Move through stages of grief including: shock, panic, sadness, and then anger. Oh, I was (am) so angry because how dare IG decide to delete my pictures! Sure, I probably have most of my original iPhone images backed up on Flickr and maybe even my computer, but I love the ease of IG and looking back through my account makes me smile. ESPECIALLY when I'm feeling as emotional and sentimental as right now, when my baby girl is about to turn one. Flipping back through her newborn pictures, or even a few of my pregnancy pictures brings me joy. I love our IG photo album I made for 2012---there is no way I can do that for 2013 now.  So sue me for 'needing' IG so much. I am also annoyed with myself for even caring this much. Because, really? It's just a stupid app and maybe it's a sign to chill out on the social media and the phone and be more present.

I posted on FB about this (ironic since I'm angry at social media and all it entails, and now I'm blogging and FB'ing) and apparently this happened to a lot of people tonight. Especially to shops on IG, but also to regular old users like myself. So perhaps it's a fluke and they got hacked; maybe we will get our accounts back. But I can assure you that I'm way too stubborn/angry/annoyed to create a new account right now and try to hunt down my IG friends again. Um, no. Maybe in time...but not now.

Moral of the story: something really weird is happening to my first choice of social media. And it's made me deep and reflective tonight. Also, it made me angry enough to vacuum and do an extra load of laundry I wasn't going to do. And it made me blog just to say, 'I have OTHER sources of connecting to my internet friends, thankyouverymuchIG.' Perhaps this will force me to blog more and not rely on the simplicity of IG as much.

Don't they know I have a first birthday party to post about? The nerve.

If you are my friend on IG now you know why all of my images are gone. And now I shall resume my birthday party projects and pretend like this doesn't bother me at all.

Come on, IG. Get it together. And if not, expect me a lot more over here ;)

blog thoughts

Wow, I've gotten a lot of comments already on my 100th post! Thank you ladies so much! And for you "work readers" who haven't read it yet, please do so. It's about three posts down and I'd love for you to partake in the fun. And now you have 4 new posts to read:)

I almost refrained from making other posts tonight because I wanted the "100" to be at the top. But then I figured I may not be posting as regularly if we are moving.....and I had stuff to say....so I went for it. And I don't know if blogger can make a post a "sticky" to the top, either.

But my question is, do you just read the first post of a blog and then move on? Or do you scroll down to see what else is new? I usually scroll down and read all the new posts but maybe that is just me? Does it take away from the posts if they are jumbled together with other new ones...should I just do one at a time from now on? Or do you like the multiple posts in a night?

Thanks again, ladies. I love to learn what you like about my blog and I'll try to do more of that in the future.

Blog Sugar 2011

This past weekend my friend Heather & I headed down to So Cal to hear our friend Julie speak at a blogging conference called Blog Sugar that was being held on Sunday afternoon.
I had no idea what to expect, but Julie really wanted our moral support, so we went.
It.was.FUN!
There were about 180 women at the conference (most of them from California) but a lot of people flew in from other states. One of them being Meg (who was the keynote speaker & was awesome).
Blog Sugar is all about using your blog to glorify God.
It was so awesome to be in a room with other women who love God and who blog.
I met some people who's blogs I have been reading (and vice versa, who have been reading mine). It was so nice to put faces to names!
Genn, me, Nancy, Kristy, Janna

On the left, Casey & I. She also worked at Kanakuk!
On the right--- Jess, April & I.

Rachel was the brains behind Blog Sugar.

This is Heather. Love her & love her blog!
She is the cutest! I went to one of her sessions. Amazing girl, amazing story.

On the left is me & Andrea (one of the girls who put on Blog Sugar)
On the right is me & Julie who sat at my table.

On the left, me & Gussy. I have one of her laptop bags. Love it!
On the right, me and Kimberlee. LOVE her.

Me & my Nor Cal friend, Keri!
I was so excited to meet Genn. We both have 2 girls, and she has a Claire also, who is 2 months younger than my Claire. They are both Crazy Claire's!
This is Katy. We have several friends in common & I go to the same church as her Aunt. Small world!
Kristen, Lindsey, Denise & I:
Me & Meagan
Lisa, Julie & I
Danielle, me & Rachel.
The Project 320 girls:
(me, Heather, Julie & Erin)
{The weekend wasn't the same without Marta & Heather. Sad Face.}

Besides meeting all these sweet ladies, there were also lots of sweet treats.
They had Cotton Candy! This is my new profile picture, since my old one was 2.5 years old!
The dessert table was beautiful. Amy Atlas would approve!

A sweet girl named Jacqui of Baby Boy Bakery made most of the desserts.
Love the verse that they chose to represent the event.
It was such a great night of being spiritually feed & encouraged by other women.
Blog Sugar was supporting the charity, Love146. An amazing organization. I encourage you to check it out!
The night ended with Meg speaking to us & encouraging us as women, as Christians & as bloggers.
God wants us to use our blogs to glorify Him.
Whether you have 5 readers or 5,000 readers, you have been given a platform to glorify Him. God has a purpose for your blog.
Use your blog for good.
Always.
It was SUCH a great weekend.
I originally went to be moral support & hear my friend speak.
I got so much more out of the weekend than I ever expected.
A huge thanks to Julie for letting myself & 10 other ladies stay at her house for one big sleepover. More on that later!
