Patriotic Chocolate Chip Cookies

4th of July is one of my favorite days of the year.
Chocolate Chip Cookies are one of my favorite treats to make!
I saw Red, White and Blue M&M's at Target, so I knew I had to buy some.
I put some out in a bowl for decoration (and to eat!) and I knew I wanted to use some of the m&m's to make cookies.
Introducing.....
Patriotic Chocolate Chip Cookies
Here is what you need:
  1 cup butter (softened)
1 cup brown sugar
¾ cup sugar
2 eggs
1 T vanilla
¾ t baking soda
1 t salt
3 cups flour
1 package  Chocolate Chips
1 cup of Red, White and Blue M&M's

Directions:
Cream butter and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla.
Stir until combined.
Add dry ingredients & Mix in chocolate chips and M&M's.
I found the 4th of July M&M's at Target, but if you can't find them there or if they are sold out, you can get them HERE. If you have Prime, they will arrive by Sunday :)
M&M's make everything better :)
After you have mixed all the ingredients,  use a cookie scoop to form the cookies.
THIS is the cookie scoop I have
Drop onto a cookie sheet....It makes the prettiest cookie dough :)
Bake at 350 for 11-12 minutes.
These cookies are so soft & delicious.
Let cookies cool slightly...
This recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies.
You need these cookies for your 4th of July party!
If you are a cookie snob like me, you will love these cookies!
YUM.
You cold also make these into Ice Cream Cookie sandwiches....add some vanilla ice cream in between 2 cookies and then roll them in 4th of July Sprinkles and you have a Patriotic Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich!

I hope you have a great weekend and have fun celebrating the 4th of July!

Mommy and Baby Matching Headbands Review and Giveaway

I got an Instagram comment one day that said, 'My friend runs a small headband business and I wonder if you'd want to do a giveaway on your blog for her stuff?' I went to the shop's account and said, 'Yes, please!' because having a matching headband with my girl is RIGHT up my alley. And plus, I really need to wear headbands other than my 'sporty' Lulu ones....just for days when I pretend to be dressed up and not always in athletic gear;) Cecelia is certainly not hurting in the hair decoration department but she one can never have too many options for little girls, right?

Danielle from Pieces to Peaces Boutique emailed me after her friend connected us through Instagram. I told her I'd love to try one of her mommy and me sets of peace bands in any color/print. She sent me gray chevron ones so maybe she knows me better than I thought;)

I am dying over how adorable Cecelia looks in her new band. With her wild hair sticking out everywhere I think she pulls off the wider fabric really well. And I keep playing with where I want to put the little gathered seam. And yes, a popsicle was totally necessary to keep her entertained.

My band is super comfortable and 'dressier' than my athletic headbands, for sure. I think I like my gathered seam right in the middle of my head, but I also tried putting it in the back, under my pony tail, too. I also want to wear this with my hair down---but that will require a blowdryer and flat iron, so it might not happen for a bit. Loving how easy it is to throw this on and look somewhat put together even when I'm straight of the shower with a wet ponytail.

Also, matching my daughter is fun. Also, I need to learn to sew asap because I want a lot of other products from Danielle.

So now it's time for you to get a pair of your own 'peace bands', my dear readers.

Comment in this post to enter from now until Wednesday night, June 12. Then on Thursday morning, June 13 I will randomly select a comment as the winner in a different post. You don't have to say anything special in your comment, or you can tell us your favorite product on the Pieces to Peaces FB page (she is working on her Etsy page, too). Go crazy;)

Best of luck!!

Aug 23 Aaaaaand I did it!

I was totally getting cold feet before my hair appointment, but I showed my stylist the picture I wanted and she loved it. And said I could rock it. And I hope I do because DANG it's short!

Before and After.
Untitled

How about a few more, to really let it sink in?

Untitled

Yep. Short.
Untitled

But I do like it! It's getting a little less shocking as time goes on. I'm not going to lie, when she was drying it I had that panicky feeling like 'OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE?' Have you ever had that sinking feeling when sitting in a stylists chair? She easily chopped off 5 inches or so and I didn't have hair that was very long before. So it's a huge change for me but it's getting less shocking as time goes on;)

It feels SO much healthier. Like I said before, my hair just wants to be curly/wavy and hates to be straight. Look at how disgusting it was as it would air dry.

After the blow dryer.
Untitled

After the flat iron.
Untitled

Not horrible, but not good. And these maddening little broken off bang things? No.
Untitled

Much, much better now.
Untitled

Had to show this one in full because of the cheeks in the background.

RECORD number of selfies in one day, man.

Some of you are probably wondering how Nate took the chop job on his lovely wife. Well, before I did it I warned him that was going short.....VERY short. And he did not like this news. At all. But we had a conversation about it and I explained that I needed this change. I hated my hair. I wanted a fresh start and after all, it's only hair. I said I hoped that he wasn't just attracted to me because of my long, luscious locks (slicked back in a pony every day) and that he'd love me even if I was bald. He came around then and braced himself for a short do.

The kids and Nate waited for me at Barnes and Noble while I got the cut and I was so stinking nervous to walk in there with my short hair. Nate smiled, Truman shook his head 'no' and walked away, and CC kept patting her own head and stared at me for a long time. Then she grabbed my hair, my eyes, and mouth....and was over it, just like that. Truman took a bit longer to warm up to me, but eventually did say, 'I like your haircut, mommy. It's soft.' And Nate says he likes it, too. A little shocking at first but we are all coming around.

Can't wait to style it for myself and see what kinds of fun ways I can fix this do. If my home-styling is anything like my stylist's version, this should take all of 5 minutes max to arrange accordingly.

So I have really short hair, now, guys. I think I like it!

Candle the Elf

We started a new Christmas Tradition this year.
Last year, the day after Christmas, I bought the Elf on Shelf book because it was on major sale.
I thought the idea looked cute & was excited to use it this year.

Every year, I give the girls a pair of new Christmas pajamas for them to wear during the month of December (and Christmas Eve night, of course!) But, this year, they got more than just matching pajamas!

On Sunday, this is what the girls saw when we got home from Uncle Jeff's birthday lunch:
I put a bow around their new Christmas pj's, wrapped 2 presents, had a note from the Elf, and of course, had the Elf sitting among the gifts:
They untied the pj's (matching, of course!)
They are Carter's. Aren't they cute?!?!
We read them the note & then they got to open the 2 presents.
The first present was from Santa saying that they had been good all year & it was the Disney Princess Christmas DVD (Kate always sees the previews of it on her Cinderella DVD & asks for it everytime she sees the preview. I found it for cheap on Ebay!)

Claire was excited also, but not as much as Kate. Then they opened the 2nd wrapped gift, which was the Elf on the Shelf Book!
Kevin read them the book which they weren't too excited about. ha!
What they were excited about was that at the end of the book, you get to name your Elf.
Kate chose the name....she said, His name is CANDLE!
Candle the Elf may or may not have been sitting next to a candle when she named him (see picture above) Way to be creative, Kate! haha!
Then it was time to give Candle his final hugs & then they are not allowed to touch him ever again (says the book)
We placed Candle in a special spot for the day, our Christmas Tree!
Then, every morning, the girls wake up & run downstairs to see where Candle is hiding in our house!
Monday morning, Candle was sitting on top of the Fridge.
Claire spotted him first:
Tuesday, Candle was on the bookshelf above the TV.
On Wednesday, Kate spotted Candle in our shutters!
On Thursday, Candle was climbing up the light fixture above the kitchen table.
This morning, Candle was in my flower arrangement on our wine rack.
(It should be noted that Candle wasn't moved until 4 am this morning. Claire woke up crying & as I got up to get her, Kevin reminded me to go move Candle since we forgot the night before.)

Do you have an Elf on the Shelf?
We are not really mentioning that the Elf is watching them to report back to Santa, we are mostly having fun trying to find him each morning.

It has been a fun new Christmas Tradition!
Can't wait to see where Candle ends up tomorrow morning....I hope I don't forget to move him again!
